Japanese Travellers Medical
Liaison Services Inc.(JTMLS) provides a number of services to Japanese
Visitors who require medical services in Canada.
One of the major services
we offer is medical interpretation. Many Japanese travelers do not
speak English well enough to communicate their medical history,
their present condition, their medication, etc, to non-Japanese-speaking
doctors in Canada.
Similarly they may need the help of an
interpreter to understand the physician’s questions, instructions,
explanations and directions for initial treatment and on-going care.
JTMLS facilitates communications in both directions for Japanese
visitors who have contact with the Canadian health care system during
their visit.
A second major service
that we provide to Japanese travelers in Canada is co-ordination
of their health care need while they are in this country. When a
patient is separated from their tour group because of medical problems
JTMLS can arrange meals and accommodation, continuing treatment
such as dialysis or oxygen or respiratory therapy or physical therapy,
and transportation to re-join the tour, or to return to Japan. While
co-ordinating their medical care in Canada we are capable of arranging
follow-up care in Japan.
We also act as cultural
liaison between Japanese travelers
and their Canadian care-providers, providing each side with an understanding
of the different perspectives of people from the other culture,
allying the fears of travelers who find themselves in unfamiliar
circumstances. In many cases, we fulfill part of the role of a social
worker in caring and interpreting for patients and their families
who find themselves in extreme circumstances ? perhaps in an Intensive
Care Unit, or requiring an emergency operation.
The company
is based in Banff/Calgary, but we have provided care for patients
throughout Canada and the United States(include Hawaii), and in
South middle America, NZ and Australia, Europe, and Africa.
JTMLS works with Canadian
Aeromedical Repatriation Services Ltd.(CARS)
to arrange all aspects of medical transport, interpretive escort,
and associated needs (such as wheelchair or stretcher, oxygen, medication,
etc) for ill or injured travelers who must return to Japan.
When a Japanese travelers
dies in Canada, we assist the
family both here and in Japan making funeral or transport arrangements,
in completing documents, and in providing written translations where
necessary.
